Centurion Boats: what to know
Centurion build surf boats in California and are the third name in the tow boat conversation after Malibu and MasterCraft. The Ri series and the Opti-V hull are what they are known for, and their wave has a strong following among people who surf seriously.
What to check before you buy
- The surf system is the whole reason to buy one. Take it out and surf behind it before you commit.
- Ballast pumps and bags, as with every tow boat.
- Fewer are built than the two bigger names, so there is a smaller pool to compare against and prices vary more.
- Check the tower mountings and the transom for impact marks.

- How does a Centurion compare to a Malibu or a MasterCraft?
- It belongs in the same conversation. People who choose Centurion usually do so for the wave, which has a shape a lot of surfers prefer. There are fewer about, so expect a smaller choice when buying and when selling.
- What is the Opti-V hull?
- Centurion's hull design, shaped to displace water into a longer, cleaner wave at surfing speed.
- Are parts and service hard to find?
